Faculty of Divinity was established on July 3, 1992 as a part of Sakarya University. In the academic year of 1994-1995 the Faculty commensed its undergraduate programme in three departments: Basic Sciences of Islam, Philosophy and Religious Sciences, and Islamic History and Arts. These are merely administrative departments and do not give separate diplomas. The first graduation ceremony was held at the end of the academic year of 1997-1998.
The aim of the Faculty is to equip students with basic knowledge of religious sciences with a view to developing a true understanding of religion and preparing them for their role in the society. This it aims to accomplish by offering both undergraduate and post-graduate programmes in various branches of religious studies. The Faculty is located in Ozanlar, Sakarya, an industrial as well as agricultural city of Marmara region. As for the academic staff, there are currently 7 Proffessors, 15 Associate Proffesors, 13 Assistant Proffesors, 9 Research Assistants and 5 Instructors, whose total number amounts to 49.
